Ice Fishing Maintenance & Care
Would it be best to completely dry out my shelter after every time it gets used?
Would it be best to completely dry out my shelter after every time it gets used?
It is recommended that your tent be dried out completely after each use. If it is not dried out, moisture may cause some damage to the shelter. This is especially important if the shelter is to be stored for a long period of time.
What will help keep mice or rodents from eating the tent of my Clam shelter?
What will help keep mice or rodents from eating the tent of my Clam shelter?
We recommend that you keep your tent with laundry dryer sheets or moth balls. If the shelter is stored in a barn or shed, take the tent off the house and store it in a rodent-free environment such as in your home.
Are tent patch kits available for my Clam ice fishing shelter? How do I apply the patch material to my tent?
Are tent patch kits available for my Clam ice fishing shelter? How do I apply the patch material to my tent?
Yes, patch kits are available for a wide range of shelters, and may be purchased from our website.
When applying a patch it works best to spray some adhesive (we recommend using 3M #77 or 3M #90 spray adhesive) on to both surfaces—the part of the tent where the patch is going to be applied and the patch itself. Wait until the adhesive begins to dry and becomes tacky, then place the patch on the tent, and they will stick together. Note: Care should be taken to apply the patch evenly and smoothly, since wrinkles or uneven areas will be very difficult to correct once the two surfaces with the adhesive have come into contact with each other.

The zipper on my shelter freezes up and/or sticks. Is there anything I can use to help prevent this from happening?
There are a few things that you can purchase to help prevent zippers from getting stuck.
Zipper Lube is one brand, often found in the camping section of sporting goods stores. This is a gel applied to the zipper.
There are also a few silicone sprays that may be used to lubricate the zipper.
Is there anything that can be applied to the outside of the tent to prevent water from coming through?
Is there anything that can be applied to the outside of the tent to prevent water from coming through?
There are products that can be applied to the outside of a tent that will make it make it more water repellent, such as Kiwi Camp Dry.
Will my fish house leak because I see pin holes in the fabric?
Will my fish house leak because I see pin holes in the fabric?
While the fabric of the tents on the shelters is water resistant it is not waterproof, so some water from rain or melting snow may come through your tent. It is good to have small holes in the fabric to allow vapors inside the shelter to escape.
I can see pin holes of light through the fabric of my tent. What can be done?
I can see pin holes of light through the fabric of my tent. What can be done?
Clam Outdoors tent fabrics are a woven material and these pin holes are part of the thread that the coating did not attach to. Also, sometimes pinholes appear along seams and are simply where the stitching is pulling the fabric. In either case this has no effect on the function of the fabric and is simply an appearance issue.

I've tangled/twisted my screen tent and it's inside out, how can I fix this?
I've tangled/twisted my screen tent and it's inside out, how can I fix this?
Our screen tents do not come new tangled, twisted or inside out. When setting up your screen tent be sure to first find the top roof panel and spread the material out so it lays flat on the ground. The roof is solid tent material with the Clam logo on all models (excluding Escape Sky). Then, walk around the shelter and pop out each side. Finish setup by popping the roof last.
If you happen to tangle your shelter and would like instructions on how to revert it back to the correct orientation, please view the linked video for more detailed instructions: https://youtu.be/FshTKepCInI
The easiest way to fix it is to be to remove the poles from the hub on the parts that are tangled. To do this you will first need to collapse the tent down. From there you will need to remove the nut on the hub, remove the face plate and pop the pole out of the hub. Do not remove the actual hub (center piece) or any of the roof poles as this will cause a lot more headache to put back together. Just removing the wall poles will allow enough slack in the fabric that you should be able to untangle the it and flip it back right side out. You will need to remove as many poles as necessary to completely untangle it and revert it right side out. The way you will know that it is untangled is when you can see the entire roof laying flat and facing up at you. Once you can see the whole roof laying flat and the logo facing up at you, you can start reinserting the poles in the walls in the same manner that you took them out in, on the inside of the tent. A trick for this is to hang it from a garage, tree branch or something along those lines so you can get the poles back in easier.
Once you get it flipped right side out, it is important to remember that when it is packaged up it does appear to be inside out, but I assure you it is not. The way that they are designed allows them to fold in on themselves. The wall panels are X's that collapse at the center. Because of this, you do see the inside fabric when it is collapsed.
To ensure proper set up, the best way is to pick the tent up directly from the carry bag and stand it up on the long metal hub. From here you want to let the screen tent fall open like a flower until you see the roof laying out flat with the Clam logo facing up. Once the roof is facing up laying flat you may begin to pop the side walls out, ending with popping the roof up from the inside. This video on the link above shows the process in real time.
How do I secure my Quick-Set screen shelter?
How do I secure my Quick-Set screen shelter?
We recommend using the provided tether ropes and stakes for securing your shelter. Tie the rope to the eyebolt on the outside of the shelter and secure the stake approx. 12-18” away from the bottom of the skirt. Tethering further than the recommended placement creates a bad angle and removes tension from the shelter, potentially causing unwanted roof collapse. NOTE: Stakes are provided for one full form of securement, and we recommend they be used with the tether ropes outside the shelter.
